“1983” was founded in 2019. It is located on the ground floor of a local artist’s ancestral house in Kam Tin old walled village. After application and approval, the space offers visitors for chats, gatherings, seminars, screenings, performances, workshops, live streamings, etc. The half-domestic half-studio setting blurs various definition of realistic borders, focusing on linkage of general citizens and cultural workers locally and internationally. 1983 has already hosted more than 30 events, including visiting guests from Japan, Mexico, Palestine, the United States, China, Taiwan, Britain, Senegal, Norway and Hong Kong. The cumulative number of participants exceeds 500. In the future, 1983 aims at working on artistic and thematic researches about surroundings, heritage and communities.
